Foursquare Distributes Food To Mark World Food Day

IN commemoration of this year’s World
Food Day, the Foursquare Gospel Church,
Ojodu Abiodun, has given out food items,
cooking oil and household utensils to
people in its locality.
At the free food day service held to mark
the day, worshippers and inhabitants of
Ogo Oluwa, Oke-Agbe, Adigboluja,
Oluwakemi, Kajola and Hassan, who
attended the programme went home with
joy.
This gesture according to the host, Pastor
Taiwo Adunbi was the Church’s
concerted effort to reduce rural poverty
by granting access to food and means of
buying it in accordance with the theme
for this Year World Food Day: “Social
Protection And Agriculture: Breaking
The Cycle Of Rural Poverty.”
The Pastor called on the privileged and
the well-meaning members of the church
and community to do their best to fight
hunger in the society, in line with
Millennium Development and Goals
(MDGs).
“Right to food is a basic human right.
Every human being has a fundamental
right to be free from hunger and the
right to adequate food. This right is
realised when everyman, woman and
child has the physical and economic
access at all times to adequate food or
means for its procurement. God will
therefore honour any one who gives his
or her neighbor food as stated by Jesus
Christ in Matthew 25: 31-40.”
The Church Secretary and Chairperson of
the Organising Committee, Sister Dolly
Omoregbe, said aside the provision of
food for hungry people, well meaning
Nigerians can also provide job for the
jobless or provide services that are
designed to support the vulnerable and
help the poor in society out of hunger
and poverty. “Free Food day is the
creation of the church and this year’s
edition was the second.”
The recipients appreciated the church
for the gesture. Mrs. Faith Emmanuel
commended the church for its laudable
initiative. She called on other churches
and faith based organisations to emulate
the church and join other global forces
to fight hunger.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Tony Okohre
said apart from the free food he
received, he also learnt on the necessity
of giving to the needy with care.
