Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini tight-lipped on Patrick Vieira's future amid New York City FC links

City's Elite Development Squad manager is
reportedly in the running for the head coaching
vacancy at their MLS-based sister club.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini
insists that he does not know what the future
holds for Patrick Vieira , amid reports linking the
Elite Development Squad chief with the vacant
head coaching position at sister club New York
City FC .
Sports Illustrated first reported last month that
Vieira has been lined up by City Football Group
to replace Jason Kreis as NYCFC boss after the
MLS expansion side finished 12 points outside
the playoffs in their inaugural season.
The rumours were further fuelled when Kreis was
sacked earlier this week, but The Mirror later
claimed that the Frenchman would prefer to wait
for a Premier League job rather than head across
the Atlantic.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference
ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa, Pellegrini
backed the former Arsenal great to be a success
in management but stressed that he is in the
dark over his colleague’s immediate intentions.
“If he really wants to go, he will go,” the Chilean
told reporters when asked about the chances of
Vieira heading to New York. “I repeat, I don’t
know. He’s the only man that can answer if it’s
really good for him, not me.

“I think Patrick’s a young manager that will be a
success in football.”

Vieira, who ended his playing career at City in
2011 before accepting a youth development role,
has been managing the club’s Elite Development
Squad for the past three seasons and is known
to be highly-regarded by ownership.
The 39-year-old was reportedly interviewed for
the managerial vacancy at Newcastle United in
June but the two parties could not come to an
agreement due to a difference in policies [h/t Sky
Sports].

Two of his EDS players, defenders Shay Facey
and Angelino, spent time on loan at NYCFC last
season but it remains to be seen whether they
will return to the US next term.
Vieira being in charge at Yankee Stadium would
likely influence things but he is not the only high-
profile name being linked with the Eastern
Conference outfit, as former England boss Fabio
Capello is also believed to be in the running [h/t
Telegraph].
Do you think Vieira will end up at NYCFC?
