We won’t abandon Sharks FC despite relegation, says Eunisell
Failure by Sharks FC of Port Harcourt to
escape relegation in the just concluded
Glo Premier League not withstanding,
official shirt sponsors of the club,
Eunisell Limited, says it would continue
to support it and also help the league
achieve its full potential.
The management of Eunisell entered a
sponsorship deal with the Blue Angels
earlier this year as a way of supporting
the local league. The support
notwithstanding, the Port Harcourt-
based Sharks failed to survive the
relegation battle, as it went down
alongside Bayelsa United, Kwara United
and FC Taraba at the end of hostilities
last weekend.
At a point, the management of Eunisell
Company decided to dangle cash
incentive for players of Sharks FC as a
way of motivating them to swim out of
the relegation zone.
Group Managing Director of Eunisell,
Chika Ikenga, has said the sad
development would not deter his
company from continuing with its
support for the league as it has done in
the past.
“We will not abandon the league and we
will not abandon Sharks FC because of
the relegation. Though they will be
playing in the second tier league, we
won’t terminate our contract with them.
We will rather encourage them to
improve on their game and hopefully
come back to play in the NPFL.
“We know our league can create jobs
and reach its highest potential if well
supported. That is why we got involved
in the first place and we won’t withdraw
our support in a bid to help the county
achieve its full potential in this regard,”
he said.
In their last match of the season, Sharks
FC failed to get the win they needed
against Abia Warriors, who berat them
by 1-0.
