How long has Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho got to save his job?
The perceived wisdom says that Jose Mourinho
has two more matches to save his job.
It seems inconceivable that one of the Premier
League's greatest managers could be facing the
sack less than 5 months after winning the title.
But that would appear to be the case.
On Wednesday evening his Chelsea team take on
Dynamo Kiev at Stamford Bridge. They will then
play Stoke City on Saturday.
Lose one or both games and the club's owner
Roman Abramovich could well swing the axe.
He's done it before if his side look unlikely to
finish in the top four.
Mourinho has looked lost this season. He's never
had a run like it in his career. 17 matches: 9
defeats.
If he knows what's wrong, he doesn't seem to
know how to fix it.
The speculation as to the reasons have been
many. Coming back for pre-season a week late
to give his players a rest; falling out with captain
John Terry; substituting a substitute in Nemanja
Matic; sacking the popular club doctor and the
recent illness of his father.
Mourinho won't say if he knows, sarcastically
commenting "Well you in the media are all
experts".
But he says "The fans know". But do they? Does
anyone? His default position after defeats is to
blame referees. And his persistent fines, sending
to the stand and now a stadium ban just make
him more petulant.
It's a mystery, and it would be a huge shame if
he were to go. He remains box office. And the
Premier League knows it.
