Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: Why signing Petr Cech from Chelsea was easy
The 33-year-old has been in fantastic form for
the Gunners this season as they look to
challenge for their first Premier League title
since 2004.
Jose Mourinho reportedly tried to block Cech's
£10m summer switch but was overruled by
Roman Abramovich.
Wenger said: "I met Petr and he told me he
could be available for that money and I said: 'For
that money, I’ll do it, so you do the job'.
"I had no fight with
Chelsea, honestly."
"He had an agreement
with his chairman that
he could go for a
certain price anywhere.
We managed to get him
here and we are happy
with it."
Cech made almost 500 appearances for Chelsea,
winning the Champions League, Premier League,
FA Cup and Capital One Cup in the process.
Wenger added: "He has given us all his
experience and his leadership because he is a
leader on the pitch.
"He talks, is brilliant intellectually, he can analyse
and is highly focused. He is the perfect
goalkeeper."
Arsenal will be hoping Cech can help them go
top of the Premier League tomorrow when they
take on arch-rivals Tottenham .
