Coke Studio Africa 3 Produces Electric Mash-Ups, Moments

THE third season of Coke Studio Africa
has continued to impress viewers with
exciting musical mash-ups, sensational
fashion and amazing performances. The
last two episodes, 4 and 5, did not
disappoint, as the intensity on the show
heightened when the mash-up moments
between the artistes, showed them
effortlessly connecting and sharing
inspirational moments.
At the start of each episode, award-
winning producer, Zwai Bale, introduces
Coke Studio season 3 with the statement,
“Season 3 is all about Mash up,” it could
be the time to add “and more.”
It was not just about music on episode 4,
because one fantastic mash up led to
another without a dull moment.  The
musical fusions that featured Jua Cali
and Yemi Alade, Hernani and Di’Ja,
Dama Do Bling and Ice Prince, Fid Q and
Maurice Kirya, Alikiba and Victoria
Kimani, Ben Pol and Avril as well as
Cypher from Wangechi were splendid.
Kenya Musical Light Trio, Elani on Coke
Tales shared how their first experience
opened them to a world of opportunities.
The group was also kind enough to leave
viewers with a word of wisdom. “Just
when you are about to give up, just when
you think that this is the end, there is a
new door that is just going to open and it
is all up to you to go through that door,
and that is exactly what that album did.”
On episode 5, there was excitement in
the air, considering the amazing dance
steps, synchronized movements and the
chemistry that lit up the stage, especially
from the Kenya songbird, Julianna and
Nigeria’s master waist turner, Flavour.
Starting from the calming music set by
Kenyan Boy Band, Sauti Sol, the duo of
Flavour and Julianna hit it off with the
song Adamma/Diana, showcasing once
again, not only an amazing
collaboration, but a rather difficult- to -
ignore chemistry on stage, as they both
sported a touch of red in their outfit.
Julianna wore a red gown that enhanced
her curves, while Flavour stayed simple
in red shorts and white vest.
MI and Avril’s mash up, One Naira/Kitu
Kimoja had something more than the
music, there was the open flattery, as MI
not only expressed satisfaction for the
way skillful producer, Cobhams turned
the song into a whole new song, he
added that the rehearsals also afforded
him a chance to do something even the
viewers could not have missed in his
proliferous compliments. In his words, “I
get the chance to look into Avril’s eyes,
and say some stuff I have been wanting
to say.’’
Although, Ice Prince and Dane Do bling
just danced, it was good watching the
synchronised twist and dance moves
between the two of them. Episode 5 had
mash ups from Elani and Chidinma,
Juliana Kanyomozi and Flavour, Fid Q
and Maurice Kirya, Chameleone and Eva
Alordiah, Dama Do Bling and Ice Prince
and Avril and MI.
The atmosphere is getting more electric
on Coke Studio Africa Season 3, and it
appears the current is only going to
intensify. Episode 6 promises to be even
more fun, as the surprising fusion just
never stops to amaze.
