Deal done: Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho agrees to replace Louis van Gaal at Man United
JOSE MOURINHO has agreed to replace Louis
van Gaal as Manchester United boss, according
to stunning claims in Italy.
Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb report there
is an agreement for Mourinho to be named the
new Old Trafford chief when Van Gaal's contract
expires at the end of next season.
The Dutchman is set to retire when his three-
year deal runs out at United in May 2017.
Mourinho was considered as a successor to Sir
Alex Ferguson in 2013 before he moved back to
Stamford Bridge for a second spell.
Despite the bold claims, Starsport understands
that reports a deal has been agreed are hugely
exaggerated.
While Mourinho is respectful of United , it remains
highly unlikely he would leave Chelsea to manage
them.
That situation could change, of course, is he's
given the boot by Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea’s billionaire owner is believed to be
keeping his finger OFF the trigger despite the
club lurching from one crisis to another right
now.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Stoke was the club’s
seventh league loss of the season and leaves
the defending champions in 16th, just three
points clear of the drop zone.
But, as Starsport exclusively revealed last week,
fan power is a major factor keeping under-
pressure Mourinho in the job - for now.
Club insiders say that Abramovich, though
alarmed at the circus surrounding the club, will
give ‘The Special One’ time to turn things
around.
Mourinho had to watch the Stoke defeat from
the nearby team hotel due to a stadium ban for
verbally abusing referee Jon Moss at West Ham
last month.
