Man Utd fail to play pass in Leicester penalty box

Manchester United, despite picking up a 1-1
draw, failed to play a successful inside
Leicester City’s penalty box during their clash
on Saturday.

Under Louis van Gaal, United have played with
a more possession-based style, opting to
retain the ball and look for the killer passes.
It’s a complete switch from the pacey,
counter-attacking philosophy seen under Sir
Alex Ferguson, but has taken United to just
one point from the summit of the table after
14 games of 2015/16.
However, in recent weeks the Dutch manager
has come under fire for his side’s lack of
chances created, and the statistic showing
that his team could not complete a pass in
the opposition penalty box on Saturday will
only add to his critics’ ammunition.
The Red Devils had gone behind in their
contest with the Foxes thanks to Jamie Vardy,
with the striker setting a record after scoring
in 11 consecutive Premier League matches.
Bastian Schweinsteiger drew United level just
before half-time with a powerful header from a
corner.
Despite sitting third in the table, Van Gaal’s
side have scored 20 goals in the league this
season, with six Premier League teams having
scored more.
However, the former Netherlands manager has
ensured United are solid at the back,
conceding the fewest goals in the division this
season (10).
The Red Devils now have a one week break,
before taking on West Ham at Old Trafford.
