Obama to convene National Security Council before leaving for G20

US President Barack Obama will convene
his National Security Council before
leaving for the G20 summit in Turkey,
the White House said Saturday.
The president plans to review
intelligence surrounding the Friday
attacks in Paris, in which gunmen and
suicide bombers killed at least 128
people and wounded hundreds.
Obama is to leave Saturday afternoon
for the meeting of leaders of the G20
developed nations, according to his
agenda. The two-day summit starts
Sunday in the southern resort city of
Antalya.
The US president spoke out against the
attacks Friday night, calling the episode
“an “attack on all of humanity.”
“Those who think that they can terrorize
the people of France or the values that
they stand for are wrong,” Obama said
in a hastily convened appearance before
reporters at the White House.
Leaders of the world’s top 20
industrialized nations have already
begun arriving in Turkey for the
summit, which is expected to focus on
the fight against terror following the
Paris attacks.
The G20 was already set to deal with a
packed agenda on issues ranging from
Syria, to tax evasion and climate change.
French President Francois Hollande has
canceled his visit to the G20, his office
said, and will be represented instead by
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and
Finance Minister Michel Sapin.
