Wojciech Szczesny reportedly dropped by AS Roma after smoking incident

It's official. Wojciech Szczesny has been
dropped from AS Roma's first-team after three
months as their No.1. To be honest, we're
surprised he has lasted this long.
Not for the first time, it was the Pole's off-field
behaviour that saw him sitting on the sidelines
for last weekend's match against Atalanta,
according to Gazzetta World.
They claim Rudi Garcia decided to drop Szczesny
after he was caught smoking in the aftermath of
Roma's defeat to an insatiable Barcelona side
earlier this week. Szczesny let six goals slide
past him in that game and may have thought
some creature comforts would help ease the
pain. Garcia has denied the accusation, but rumours
are continuing unabated after the French
manager decided to start Morgan De Sanctis in
Roma's latest Serie A match. Szczesny had
started ten consecutive games for Roma prior to
last weekend.
“De Sanctis and Szczesny are on the same
level,” Garcia told reporters. “There is no number
one starter. Szczesny hasn’t done anything
wrong and he isn’t responsible for anything.”
