Messi, Suarez smash Ryan's Valencia in Copa del Rey

Socceroo keeper Mat Ryan has endured a torrid
morning as his Valencia side were smashed 7-0
by Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final
first leg at the Nou Camp.
Valencia had no answer to the quality of the
Barcelona side, with Luis Suarez scoring four
goals, while Lionel Messi grabbed a hat-trick.
There was little Ryan could do to limit the
damage with Barca in a rampant mood.

But the Socceroo gloveman still pulled off a
couple of excellent saves to spare Valencia an
even heavier defeat.
The visitors made a shocking start with Suarez
scoring twice inside the first 12 minutes.
That’s when Messi took over. The Argentine
legend added a third before the break before
completing his hat-trick with 16 minutes left.
Messi’s second goal was his 500th goal in
competitive football.
Suarez then completed his superb night with
another two goals in the last seven minutes to
heap more misery on Gary Neville’s outclassed
side.

The bad news for Ryan and his team-mates is
they have to play Barca again in a week’s time
for the second leg of the semi at the Mestalla.
Before that Valencia – currently 12th in La Liga
– travel to Real Betis in the league on Monday
morning (AEDT).
