Bayern Munich 5 Arsenal 1: Gunners on the brink as Lewandowski and co run riot
The German giants produced a devastating first-
half display at the Allianz Arena, scoring three
times, to leave the Gunners rooted to the bottom
of Group F.
Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern an 11th-minute
lead as he headed home unmarked from five
yards after Arsenal's attempts to play him
offside failed.
Mesut Ozil thought he had scored an immediate
equaliser but the goal was ruled out after the
officials determined the ball had gone in off his
arm.
Thomas Muller doubled the home side's lead
after 29 minutes as his effort deflected past Petr
Cech off Per Mertesacker.
Cech then denied Muller with a fine save but he
could do nothing to stop David Alaba's curling
effort from 25 yards just before half-time.
Bayern continued their dominance after the
break with Arjen Robben adding a fourth with a
first-time shot just seconds after coming on as a
substitute.
Olivier Giroud pulled one back with 20 minutes
remaining with a fine chest and volleyed finish
but it was nothing more than consolation for
Arsene Wenger's men.
