Olivier Giroud scores on beautiful scissor kick vs. Bayern Munich
Olivier Giroud helped Arsenal save face vs.
Bayern Munich with a wonderful goal
Arsenal had been on the wrong end of a
shellacking against Bayern Munich on
Wednesday in Champions League group stage
play. Bayern scored three first-half goals and
added another in the second half to go up 4-0
over the Premier League side. However, Arsenal
wasn’t trying to get completely embarrassed and
Olvier Giroud stepped in to make that happen.
With the Gunners desperately looking for a goal,
Alexis Sanchez played a lofting cross into the
penalty area that Giroud was there to make a
play on. He chested the ball to himself and then
unleashed a rocket of a scissor kick that beat
Manuel Neuer to get Arsenal on the board:
While Arsenal are going to be on the wrong end
of the result and have been dominated for 99
percent of this match, you can’t deny that this
was surely a moment of brilliance from Giroud on
this goal.
Arsenal came into this match looking to avoid
defeat, playing with a deep defensive line and
trying to simply prevent Bayern from finding goal
themselves. However, with the Bundesliga side
striking early and often, that threw a monkey
wrench into the Gunners’ plans. They’re still alive
in the Champions League, but they’ll certainly
have to rebound after this disappointing effort.
