Branislav Ivanovic: Chelsea have struggled with extra pressure this season
Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic has
admitted that his team have struggled to cope
with the additional pressure placed on them
this season, as per Sky Sports .
The Blues won the Premier League with
relative ease last season, finishing eight points
clear of second-placed Manchester City.
However, they have been in abysmal form this
term and currently occupy 15th place after 11
matches.
The 31-year-old has been one of the players
to suffer an extreme slump in form during the
opening weeks of the campaign and the
Serbia international accepted that the team
have not performed in the manner expected of
Premier League champions.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday, the 6ft 1in
defender said: “Everyone expects us to be on
top but we didn’t start well. There is always
extra pressure when you are champions, and
the whole team didn’t react well after winning
the trophy.
“In the Premier League every team is
competitive and can win even against the top
teams. It is why it is important to go step by
step, and I hope we will be back in a good
position.”
Ivanovic has been absent for Chelsea’s last
three league games because of a hamstring
injury and in that time they have lost two
consecutive matches against West Ham and
Liverpool.
