Plateau Task Force Alerts Of Imminent Attack By Boko Haram
For the umpteenth time, Operation Safe Haven
Jos (OPSH), a military task force charged with the
responsibility of restoring peace in Plateau State,
following incessant communal and externally-
induced crises, has warned residents of Jos/
Bukuru metropolis to avoid crowded areas
because it has uncovered fresh plot by members
of the dreaded Boko Haram to detonate
explosives in such places.
On Monday, spokesman of OPSH,
Captain Ikedichi Iweha had warned the
public that some unnamed persons were
planning to truncate the peace being
enjoyed in the state.
But this time around, Captain Iweha
named the Boko Haram elements as
being responsible for the imminent
bombing. He said that members of the
public are expected to maintain high
level of vigilance around terminus and
satellite markets, mosques and churches,
schools and relaxation spots, especially
around West of Mines, the NNPC Mega
Stations and other places dispensing
petroleum products as well as Hamaz
Areas along Ahmadu Bello Way, Jos.
He called on members of the public to
maintain the highest level of security
consciousness following a noticeable
increase in the movement of hawkers
across the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis while
assuring residents of their readiness to
respond to any breach of security in the
state.
Similarly, the Nigeria Prison Service is to
be incorporated into the Plateau State
Security Council. Governor Simon Bako
Lalong gave the assurance while in
audience with the Assistant Controller –
General (Prisons) in charge of Zone H,
Dr. Samuel Agidi, who paid him a
courtesy call at Government House,
Rayfield, Jos.
Lalong, who was represented by his
deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, said as a
people – oriented government committed
to the concept of change, it will look into
the issue of the Nigeria Prison Service
marginalisation from the state security
council with a view to incorporating
them accordingly.
The governor acknowledged the critical
role played by the Services in reforming
society, stating that the state government
will partner with them.
According to Lalong, “As far as this
organ of government is concerned, from
the state to the national level, we have to
keep our doors open to be able to
respond to demands from relevant
agencies like you.”
He promised to look into some of the
problems affecting the operations of the
prison service, particularly operational
vehicles as soon as the financial position
of the state improves.
Agidi had earlier disclosed to the
governor that he was in Government
House to inform the governor of the
need to grant amnesty to the 37
condemned prisoners of Plateau origin
at the Jos prison. The prison boss
commended the present administration
for the privilege of the courtesy call
specifically pleaded with the state
government to include the Nigeria
Prison Service in the state security
council as it is the case with Nasarawa,
Kogi and Benue states.
