Robin van Persie’s fall from grace has been surprise since Man Utd exit, says Dutch ace

Robin van Persie’s fall from grace has been
dramatic since his exit from Manchester United,
according to Dutch teammate and Newcastle
midfielder Giorgino Wijnaldum.
The striker has been axed from the Holland
squad for the upcoming games against Wales
and Germany by coach Danny Blind, leaving his
international career hanging by a thread.
Van Persie has been struggling for regular game-
time since joining Turkish side Fenerbahce from
United in the last transfer window with him
angrily hitting out at being benched.
The 32-year-old could be consigned to the past
now for the Netherlands after they missed out on
qualification for Euro 2016, which could mean
Blind prefers to focus on the next generation.
Van Persie, who has 50 goals in 101 caps to
date, was unceremoniously dumped by Louis van
Gaal at United after being deemed as over the
hill.
But the axing from the Dutch squad is still a
major shock as far as Wijnaldum is concerned.
“Whether the coach is going to change a lot, I do
not know,” he told publication Football Oranje,
quoted by the Express.
“The selection has not changed very radically.
After Robin van Persie, of course. What I thought
when I heard that he is no longer there? It was
surprising, he has always been there and has
played over a hundred matches.”
